The world of mixed games proudly brought to you by the letters M.G.A. That’s right, the Mixed Games Academy is here to satisfy every taste, itch and mixed game fantasy you may have.
While No Limit Holdem will always have the major spotlight, there has been an emerging ‘want’ and ‘need’ for more, and this is where the mixed variations will fill the void.
We will bring you Draw variations, Seven Card Stud variations and expansions on the flop game variations you already know and love by adding ‘High/Low’ split pot games, new big bet games as well as introducing you to ‘fixed limit betting’ structures which means its IMPOSSIBLE to bust Aces versus any two random cards on the first hand of the Holdem round! You’re welcome!
The Academy will provide training for players on ‘how to play’, helping make the change from two card no limit into, well, everything else. You will learn new terms such as pat, snow, convertible, scoop, bring-in, completion, and many more as you progress through the variations.
Please don’t let any of this lingo stop you from trying something new, in the end, its just poker but with different winning hands, or, combinations of hands in the case of High/Low split pot games.
Most of the standard tournament rules apply, with some exceptions when it comes to some circumstances in Draw and Stud variations. Our Tournament directors are the best in the business, so you are in good hands.
The first event “Mixed Games Summer Series” will be held from 15-22 January 2023 at the picturesque Eatons Hill Hotel and function centre in Brisbane. We will be proudly coinciding the launch of MGA alongside our friends at the Australia Poker Tour where they will be showcasing some of the best No Limit Holdem and PLO schedules and structures in Australia right now! Their signature events include $2,500 – Goliath, $1,000 – Players champs, $1,200 – The Grind, $1,150 – Big PLO and of course the Maddocks mindset Main Event for $600. Peppered perfectly in amongst these headline events are a smorgasbord of small to medium buy-in events covering all tastes of self and dealer dealt games.
This platform alongside APT will provide all players with the most diverse and inclusive poker schedule in Australia, a (self proclaimed) title we plan to keep and continue to evolve with.
What games can you expect? Well I’m glad you asked!
All our games with MGA are dealer dealt and kicking off on Sunday 15th January we will begin it all with a $600 – H.E.R.O.S event. This is a fixed limit rotation of five games (formerly known as H.O.R.S.E.). The games and order are Holdem, Seven card stud Hi/Lo 8 or better, Razz, Omaha Hi/Lo 8 or better and Seven Card stud.
Other Events:
17/1 – $600 – Triple Triple Draw (2-7, Ace to 5 & Badudi)
18/1 – $800 – 8 Game (2-7, H.E.R.O.S., NLH & PLO)
20/1 – $1,150 – 9 Game (8 Game plus 2-7 No Limit single draw)
21/1 – $600 – H.E.R.O.S. events (15/1 & 21/1)
22/1 – $250 – 2-7 No Limit single draw
Most of the games have satellites being played on the same day as event (except opening H.E.R.O.S. event) where you can qualify for the big dance from as little as $100 in the dealer dealt satellites where 1 in 7 registered players will go through.
Academy training will be held from Monday 16/1 to help players understand how to play the events with the following scheduled:
Monday 16 January – H.E.R.O.S.
Tuesday 17 January – Triple Triple draw
Wednesday 18 January – H.E.R.O.S. recap for 8 game, 2-7 Triple draw recap
